Despite of the difficulties felt during the governments of National Dictatorship and New Sate, <strong>with loss of great part of its documentation<\/strong>, the League managed to exercise the purpose of contributing in the defense of the Human Rights in Portugal.<\/p>\n<p>From the documents that reached the present moment, it is possible to know that in 1945, the <strong>Directory of the League<\/strong> was formed by:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom: 0;\">\n<li><strong>President<\/strong>: Carlos Lemos (Ant\u00f3nio Carlos Cardoso de <strong>PIDE<\/strong>(International and State Defence Police \u2013 security service agency) raided and apprehended the <strong>archive of the League<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In 1967, the social organs Raul Rego and Francisco Jos\u00e9 Cardoso J\u00fanior.<\/p>\n<p><strong>After April 25th<\/strong>, the League assumed its public action by the hand of president Vasco da Gama Fernandes and the Malheiros.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is a clear renovation throughout the League: <strong>the inclusion of young people and for the first time a woman<\/strong> \u2013 Maria Barroso.<\/p>\n<p>By assuming the function as President of the Assembly of the Republic, Mr. Vasco da Gama Fernandes renounced the presidency of the League and he was replaced by \u00c2ngelo de Almeida class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>On <strong>December 15th, 2008<\/strong>, the League merged with <strong>CIVITAS \u2013 Association for the Defence and Promotion of Citizens<\/strong>\u2019 Rights, and, since then, its present denomination is Portuguese <strong>Human Rights League \u2013 Civitas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CIVITAS<\/strong> was <strong>founded in 1989<\/strong> and its 1st General-Assembly was held at Sociedade Nacional das Belas Artes presided by Magalh\u00e3es Mota, with the secretaries Vasco Louren\u00e7o and S\u00e1 Machado.<\/p>\n<p>Vitor Alves and Helena Cidade Moura spoke in the name of the Founding Committee and V\u00edtor Mel\u00edcias, Fernando Amaral, Nat\u00e1lia Correia, Domingos Moura and Jos\u00e9 SanchesOs\u00f3rio intervened as associates.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section
